The South Side Boys and Girls Club opened in 1959, and its doors have been open to youth and families ever since. Notable alumni include Jamie Benton, head basketball coach at Johnson & Wales University, Ed Cooley, head basketball coach at Providence College, and Kobi Dennis, civic leader.
At the moment, South Side Clubhouse is open for childcare only. All members enjoy supper at the Clubhouse, as well as access to a vast variety of activities such as our indoor swimming pool.
The Southside Boys & Girls Club Childcare Program values education, the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) framework and embrace inclusivity and diversity. Each day childcare members explore concepts related to STEAM, College and Career exploration and leadership development through homework assistance, project based learning and open discussions facilitated by Youth Development Staff.
Continued grants and programs from over the past five years include STEM Mentoring (in partnership with FirstPic and Mystic Aquarium through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention grant). Community Service-Learning Projects and Summer Learning Programs (in partnership with Providence Public Schools) to prevent summer learning loss.
Our dedicated childcare team consists of two Shift Supervisors/Staff Support Specialists: Dott O. and Kyle S., an Education Coordinator: Leah (Ms. Rich) R., Youth Development Specialists: Qiana C., Herb R., and Program Assistant: Lenin T.
Through partnerships with Barrington High School and BellXcel, childcare members are provided additional opportunities to learn and grow at every corner.
